November Winds ( Cloak of Mercy)

Last of the leaves

cling to life

although the earth is calling

it’s chilled and needs

covers of colour

layered of warmth

a blanket of Autumn

~

Composed with ease

they flutter and dance

to the song

of November winds

tis like my heart

when lit with love

it sings with grace

~

Winds of November

now bare the tree

branches now exposed

vulnerable yet steadfast

perch for weary wings

graced by sparrows

celebrate given life

~

Last of my will

clings to self

I hear the Saviour call

the chill of snare

in need of prayer

layered by faith

a blanket of strength

~

Winds of November

warm my soul

with promised slumber

 life born of spring

no chill extends

the soul is cloaked

His mercy covers

~

Amos 4:13

For behold, He who forms mountains and creates the wind And declares to man what are His thoughts, He who makes dawn into darkness And treads on the high places of the earth, The LORD God of hosts is His name.

  1. Another beautiful piece of poetry, Kathy. We have some of the Canadian winds down our way tonight. (Our first freeze of the year.) Soon our trees will be bare, but there is always the promise of spring.

    Blessings!

  2. Kathy, I enjoyed the way you paralleled the trees clinging to last leaves, and our own stubborn determination to cling to our self-will. Interesting how those same November winds that chilled deeply, now warm the soul that has resigned to submitting to God’s perfect will instead of our own. I enjoyed, also, your portrayal of the tree branches’ faithfulness to their duty, despite their own trials and tribulations: “ branches now exposed, vulnerable yet steadfast, perch for weary wings, graced by sparrows, celebrate given life.”  Good work!

  3. Kathy, this is so beautiful! I love the emphasis on “blanket” and “covering” in contrast to the naked vulnerability of the trees without leaves. It describes very well what we are without God’s mantle of grace covering us. The “blanket of Autumn” shields a tree’s skeletal frame as it adds to its beauty, rather like the “blanket of strength” we gain from being connected to God shields, protects and adds support, as well as glory and colour to our lives. Then we are better placed to withstand those inclement winds. Great work! Blessings 🙂 xx

    • You hit the nail right on the head…so to speak 🙂 So grateful for God’s grace! There would be no life or promos without it! Thank you so much my dear friend for stopping by and taking the time to read and comment. Always blessed by your comments! 🙂 xx
