Footprints of the Past

Her childhood heart left behind

Through tears she waves goodbye,

Her youthful soul that once held life

Is barren a dessert achingly dry.

Left behind are roads of dreams

Crushed by others mistakes,

The sadness strays from soul to heart

The weight of sorrow it steals, it takes!

Kindred spirits have turned to dust

The walls built are made of stone,

She reaches for a strand of hope

Too find she stands alone.

For in the miles she sees no future

Craved answers concealed from her soul,

Others convictions now tear at her heart

There is no room just a gaping hole!

Shards of happiness hold together

Gathered treasures small but few,

The memory bank that is penniless

She prays one day will be renewed!

  1. Thank you , kindly. I realize this is a sad write, made up of broken ~ pieces of a young child’s broken soul ~ a visit into the shadows of my childhood. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. Blessings.
